Bookmakers donโ€™t often offer exciting deals on water polo betting because itโ€™s not a very popular sport and doesnโ€™t generate a lot of money. However, common betting options are still available at most bookmakers. The best water polo betting odds usually come during the Summer Olympics, held every four years. During the Olympics, bettors have many options and, with good preparation, can make solid profits. Another big event for betting is the FINA Water Polo World League, which started in 2002 and features some of the best teams in the sport. You can also bet on matches in the top European domestic leagues.

Water polo betting

Water polo started in the late 1800s when a Scottish swimming teacher named William Wilson invented it. He first called it “aquatic football.” The game is played in a pool with two teams, each having seven players. The aim is to score more goals than the other team by throwing the ball into their net.

A water polo game has four parts, with two-minute breaks between them. The length of each part depends on the competition. In big events like the Olympics, each part is eight minutes long. For younger players under 14, each part is five minutes.

In water polo, players donโ€™t stay in fixed positions except for the goalkeeper, who stays in goal. The other six players move around the pool to attack or defend.

During the game, players canโ€™t touch the bottom or sides of the pool. They must push or carry the ball with only one hand, and the ball must stay above the water.

Main bets on water polo

  • Match bets (also called straight-up bets): You bet on how the game will end. You pick which team will win or if it will end in a draw. Draws are rare in water polo, so the odds for this type of bet are usually pretty good.
  • Bets on total score: Here, you predict how many points both teams will score together. The bookmaker will give you a number, and you guess if the total score will be more or less than that number. This is also called an Over/Under bet.
  • Prop bets: These are special bets chosen by the sportsbook. For example, you might bet on how many points a certain player will score or the exact score at a specific time in the game.

Water polo tips

Always check the odds from different bookmakers and pick the one that offers the best payout. Itโ€™s also important to learn about the teams you want to bet on. Look at how theyโ€™ve performed in the past and check if any key players are injured. Staying updated with the latest information can make a big difference in winning your bets.
